Youth Summit

May 27 - 30, 2026
Washington, D.C

Each year, a national conference brings together juvenile justice practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and system stakeholders to discuss critical issues, share knowledge, and drive positive change within the juvenile justice system. As part of this conference, the National Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) hosts a dedicated Youth Track, encouraging young leaders to collaborate and explore how we move beyond systems that ask young people to merely survive and instead build pathways for them to thrive.

The founder of Concrete Flowers will host two workshops as part of the youth track: Meet Our Culture, Share Our Culture and The Next Generation, closing with a call to action for attendees to carry the work forward.

Youth & Family Engagement Summit

September 1 - 2, 2026
Ankeny, Iowa

The 6th Annual Family and Youth Engagement Summit invites youth, families, system professionals, and community leaders to come together for a day of connection and reimagining. Inspired by Aladdin, this year's theme challenges us to move beyond "how things have always been" and imagine what's possible when youth and families are true partners.

Concrete Flowers will host an interactive, youth-only breakout room, including youth currently navigating the system, built to have real conversations and share lived experience. Through open dialogue and peer exchange, participants will explore lessons learned, challenge misconceptions, and create solutions to move forward together. This workshop focuses on community and practical knowledge youth can actually use, as we continue navigating life and systems across the state of Iowa.

Who
we are

Concrete Flowers was born from the belief that beauty and strength can grow from even the hardest places. Inspired by the idea that a flower can grow through concrete and the support of loved ones who reminded us how vital belonging and purpose truly are, everything we do centers agency, community, connection, and possibility.

We work alongside young people, families, and the communities that surround them. Some are navigating systems like foster care or juvenile justice. Others never have been and that's exactly the point. We believe this work shouldn't wait for a young person to be in crisis or caught in a system. Prevention is just as powerful as intervention, and every young person deserves access to community, leadership, and the tools to thrive before, during, and beyond any system involvement.

Here, young people and families are not just participants, they're the experts, the voices, and the visionaries shaping change. We don't just serve, we challenge policies, practices, and build alongside the people closest to the issues because they are closest to the solutions.

And at the center of all of it, young people, families, and communities are the seeds of something greater.
