Cultural Competence in Juvenile Probation
An interactive session for makers and thinkers to collaborate, connect, and spark new ideas.
Youth Justice Action Month - Community Fun Day
Youth Justice Action Month is celebrated nationally as a time to raise awareness, inspire action, celebrate the power of second chances, and elevate the experiences of young people and families impacted by the juvenile justice system.
Concrete Flowers is organizing its 3rd annual YJAM event in Storm Lake, Iowa, in partnership with youth from the community and other allies. By popular request, this year's theme will be a repeat: a Fun Day in the Park! The day will feature free tacos, games, prizes, local businesses, and a resource fair.
Youth and Family Engagement Summit
The 6th Annual Family and Youth Engagement Summit invites youth, families, system professionals, and community leaders to come together for a day of connection and reimagining. Inspired by Aladdin, this year's theme challenges us to move beyond "how things have always been" and imagine what's possible when youth and families are true partners.
Concrete Flowers will host an interactive, youth-only breakout room, including youth currently navigating the system, built to have real conversations and share lived experience. Through open dialogue and peer exchange, participants will explore lessons learned, challenge misconceptions, and create solutions to move forward together. This workshop focuses on community and practical knowledge youth can actually use, as we continue navigating life and systems across the state of Iowa.
Youth Summit
Each year, a national conference brings together juvenile justice practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and system stakeholders to discuss critical issues, share knowledge, and drive positive change within the juvenile justice system. As part of this conference, the National Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) hosts a dedicated Youth Track, encouraging young leaders to collaborate and explore how we move beyond systems that ask young people to merely survive and instead build pathways for them to thrive.
The founder of Concrete Flowers will host two workshops as part of the youth track: Meet Our Culture, Share Our Culture and The Next Generation, closing with a call to action for attendees to carry the work forward.
